Clugston on the Square

The renovated Clugston (circa 1850) is in the heart of downtown Columbia City and on the National Register of Historic Places. The Clugston has been a church, school, hotel, and dry goods store. The town’s denizens gathered at the hotel for a variety of functions. In 1908, local attorney Thomas R. Marshall gave his acceptance speech from the Hotel balcony upon becoming vice president of the United States under President Woodrow Wilson.

The Clugston offers high-ceiling studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments in the ambiance of original interior woodwork, brick walls, and a second-floor terrace. It also has many of the amenities required of modern-day living, including individually controlled heat and air, cable hookups, an elevator, handicapped-accessible features, a laundry facility, and a community room with a kitchenette.

All utilities are included in the rent. Residents come to love the sense of community both inside and out. The Clugston on the Columbia City town square provides easy access to shopping, government services, and a majestic courthouse building.

Prospective tenants must be 55 or older, income-qualify based on HUD and IHCDA regulations, and submit to criminal background and credit checks.
